Instead of teaching, his career combined science, engineering and physiology, and he continues this today as CEO and founder Shoes Timberland of New England Footwear based in Newmarket.
During his career, which included positions at Nike, Reebok and Timberland men Timberland, Clark has studied numerous runners, filming their motion while running, performing gait analysis and measuring the impact forces created while running. While at Blue Ribbon Sports, he worked with Samuelson and runners Alberto Salazar, Mary Decker Slaney and Timberland women Carl Lewis to help to determine the best running shoes for each of them to wear in the 1984 Olympics, and found that some shoes were more efficient than others, and that even small changes can make a big difference.
